password1234 Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 (edited) So....we recently took over IT support for a local primary school over from another company, little did the school realise the looking after the phone system that was supplied by a 3rd party vendor was not included, so they had a power cut and since then the phone system has been down and they have no support or maintenance contract with the previous company and have asked us to take a initial look at it (Long story for another time)... They are running a PBX (Avaya IP 500V2) I am no entirely sure why the numbers are like that with top row showing 1-2 3-4 etc and bottom row showing 1 on top of 2 and 3 on top of 4 ??? Not familiar at all with these units The Way it is connected is as follows 1) A Phone cable going from the BT Open Reach Socket to Port 9?? on the switch (See Red X mark on the image) 2) Then there is another RJ45 Cable going from the Port above which i assume is port 9? (Blue X mark on the image) and this goes down to the floor in a box with a bunch of analogue cables 3) Then on the PBX control unit itself at the back of the box there is a cable that links back to the switches which is all fine 4) Bottom Row (Black X) there is a bunch of Phone cables connected to it see second image on the thread Does this seem like the correct setup does anyone know? Someone (Possibly from the school) have been disconnecting and reconnecting cables so have absolutely no idea what has been done and what goes where Thought i'd check here incase anyone has any knowledge as we have never dealt with phone system before Probably going to end up getting the school to have to pay the company half day call out charge to get things right Everything interally works fine switches/and software but seems to be issues making internal and external calls! Steve21 Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Without more info to dig into it, then yes that does sound like it "could" be cabled correctly, but you should be able to tell if you login to the console/software (assuming you have it installed on a server/pc somewhere), as it'll have a list of what ports are assigned to what (trunks in, extensions etc) For example on ours, we have the analogue and gamma line coming into the ipv500, which links to the switch as you mentioned. The weirdly named ports are just individual extensions (and then for us we have expansion units with more on, but it sounds like you only have the one) You should be able to see it flashing certain colours on ports when turned on (normally it'll be red leds flashing) that give a status code for it, for example on ours 1+9 is a daughter card status, do you have anything showing on them? howartp Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Yeah, sounds to be cabled correctly. Those 12 ports include your incoming line, possibly fax lines, and internal extensions. The numbering below matches the ports, so blue is 9, red is 10. The numbering above is for the LEDs, so LED 9 is for port 9, etc. You will need IP Office Manager on a client PC, then you'll need the username and password, which might be where you come unstuck. (Note depending on the backend, the username may be case-sensitive - ours is as we have Avaya's Voicemail Pro on linux, not windows) See screenshot attached of ours, and what you're looking for (though the ports will obviously differ). 1
