Software wont deploy

Hi ya,

 

On Windows 10 here and moved this Machine to an OU that has software assigned. A GP Result shows that the group policies will apply to the computer. But despite several reboots the policies do not go on. The software does not install. Am I missing something obvious? Other computers in the OU seem to have the software.

 

Would it be because the wifi connection doesn't kick in till the computer is on the logon screen?

It could be the lack of WiFi connectivity during startup, so try it on an ethernet cable. and see if that gets the software installing.

 

Failing that, check Event Viewer on the affected machine. Under Windows Logs > Application, look for events from the 'MsiInstaller' source that occur during startup to see if there are any clues.

 

If there's a chance that the machine has had that piece of software deployed to it in the past, but it's been manually uninstalled, then you may need to clear the associated key out of registry. Look through what's in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy\AppMgmt to see if the software package is listed there already or not. If it is, you'll need to remove that key (all the usual warnings about taking care when editing the registry apply) so that Group Policy doesn't think that the software is already present.

We always had issues deploying software via GPO, your better off with something like PDQ or SCCM

Yes it's the wifi, you can set it to wait until wifi is connected with a gpo.
