So, how many passwords have you had to change today?

We're still averaging a dozen a day. First week back it was nearer 30-40 a day. Few systems and username changes though, and a lot of staff and students with the inability to follow simple instructions! (many students who literally don't know their own names or other vital information that the average child can write fluently from the age of 4)

'Can you reset Dave's password to password'..... Whos Dave? Surname? Year group? What login do you want to reset?

 

We have staff who dont know who the kids are in their class! I can forgive new staff but some of the old teachers have been teaching these students for years!

 

My favourite is the teacher that emails and you ask one of the questions above. They then dont reply but in their next lesson they email to say 'its still not working'!

How are you finding this? I already have this setup but half dismissed the idea of giving all staff access to it because I was worried about the time to sync from AAD to our on-prem AD i.e. member of staff resets password in AAD but the student still cannot log in on a computer for up to 30 mins until it has synced and both Staff and Student assume it hasn't worked and they still end up at the IT office.

 

It's really not been too bad. If I recall password write backs are not on the same sync schedule as the other Syncs and happen in almost immediately. The two numbers I recall reading somewhere are 2 minutes and 5 minutes. I've had a few cases they say the reset doesn't work, but usually within a minute it does.

 

One thing I wish it did better is show if the password has already been reset? If a password has already been reset, Azure gives a generic warning about on prem policy. I don't have it in front of me to get exact wording. However in all the users I've checked, the mush change password at next logon box is checked.

 

Overall it is working well.
