T_Lister Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Hello forum, I think I know the answer, just feel I should get a confirmation: Previously I've added a new DC to a site that didn't replicate/generate NETLOGON etc properly. Upon research this was apparently due to the previous DC (prior to me supporting said school) hadn't been setup properly from a previous move, thus meaning I had to go through the paraphernalia of a non-authorative restore. Thus leading to my question: I've just moved the FSMO at another school, no ties to the above, from one VM to another, all has gone well. The new FSMO server has been a DC for sometime and I'm getting ready to decommission the old. I do not need to do any authoritaive/non-authoritaive restores if everything is in tact still correct?
Steve21 Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 It's worth doing some more checks first regarding things like your time sync if you're using NTP. Have you got the new PDC setup for external connections, and disabled HyperV integration etc, otherwise when you take the old one offline it'll nuke your time settings etc Steve
MartinT Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 You will need to perform a proper demotion of the old DC so that it cleanly removes itself from the AD.
