I have a weird problem with a Tosh laptop.

It is perfectly fine until I play video footage back through it using Windows Media Player or Real Player. At this point, the picture breaks up so badly, it's unwatchable.

All suggestions greatfully received.

Are you using native display settings? I assume it's any video not just some.

Not sure what you mean by native display settings.

It is any video and there was no problem with it on Tuesday... I'm completely mystified. I cannot rule out teacher interference with settings since I last used the lapto wretched thing up though.

I just checked a Satellite A200 and the display resolution is 1280 x 800. I doubt that's what it is but it's what I would check first. I think I'd do a system restore next.

We've had loads of problems like this, mostly on data projectors and usually it's down to the user changing the refresh rate in the advance settings of the display properties.

This type of problem can be caused by having too many programs running in the background, run msconfig and thin them out. You could also try updating the CODECS.
