supportman Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 I've been asked to setup a dedicated video conferencing classroom for our partner school oversees. Budget is pretty healthy so I want to get the best quality stuff. The classroom has nothing in at the moment so I guess I would need a screen, fixed camera at the back of the room and good quality microphone. Has anyone done this before?
paulkerton Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 You're a Google School aren't you? https://meetingdevices.withgoogle.com/en_gb/#products

hardtailstar Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 We have this in our conference room - https://meetingdevices.withgoogle.com/en_gb/products/5768/asus-google-meet-hardware-kit-large-room-kit/ The trust that runs our school has one in every school. From what I've heard from staff it works really well and easy to use for a non techy person.
supportman Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 Thanks yes I think thats the way we might go. https://www.planetestream.co.uk/accessories/room-capture/ There is a nice person tracking camera at the bottom and good mic. I was just worried the 4 input HMDI encoder would be a bit complicated for staff but I guess we will find out
SamanthaD Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 If you have a healthy budget check out https://www.x2omedia.com/en/solutions/oneroom/classroom/ - we had a demo of this and it's a really slick setup. Pricey though!

SamanthaD Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Wow, yes. That individual person view is really, really impressive but that is not going to come cheap is it? It's a lot more than just that - each display has its own camera, microphone and speaker so when the teacher engages with the person on screen, the remote student feels like they're looking and talking directly at them and the teacher hears the questions coming from the right direction. The student can also choose their view, so they can have "Perspective" view, other cameras, a virtual whiteboard or screensharing. It's very well thought out. The break out rooms work really well too. However, not cheap at all. It's subsciption based on participant hours. So if you have a class of 30 in for a 8 hour day, that's 240 hours used. By the way I don't work for X20 media! As much as the solution is great, it's way too pricey for us. But where they lead, others might soon follow... 1

I looked at the situation room setup photo, and got rather excited! Then I realised that I can't think of a single reason we'd need a "situation room" 1
