Recommend an AX access point for the home!

I currently have an aging Ruckus AC access point providing wifi coverage in my house. It has done sterling service over the years but now my son, via his Oculus Quest 2 likes to stream games from his PC to the headset when he's got the extra space in the living room to play in.

As there is a big update coming out for the Quest 2 any time now which will allow for the streaming of (almost) any PC VR games to the Quest 2 I'm after upping the bandwidth in the house as the Quest 2 likes AX apparently.

What I would like s a recommendation for a home access point that will be able to reach all the corners in a mid-sized house and priced around £150-£200, does anyone have any recommendations?

*No routers please as I already use a Ubiquiti router with my Virgin Superhub in modem mode.

I’ve got an Aruba InstantOn which I like a lot. They have a Wifi 6 version now, the AP22

That said, if you already have a Ubquiti router, it might make sense to get a Unifi AP. They have the U6-Lite for about £100 and a 4x4 version coming soon, which looks like it’ll be around £170

I should have also mentioned that it should have POE for power!

I’m a ubnt guy. So would look for the u6 I think. In fact I’m considering it for the single WiFi 6 device I have lol (ac-lite still doing sterling work)

Beware: Unifi 6 Lite and Unifi 6 Long Range support 802.11ax on 5 GHz, only. On 2.4GHz both support 802.11n. So both are "50% WiFi 6" access points.

Hopefully wifi 6e isn't too far away which will mean a whole raft of new APs using the 6 Ghz. If you can then hold on a few months and see if anything develops if not then I doubt you'll be missing too much.

As it's mainly to allow my son to use his Quest 2 to stream games from his PC (via GB powerline adaptors to the router) the 6Ghz isn't really soemthing I'd consider needing just yet. Certainly not until laptops, phones etc. catch up.

TBH, it;'s about time home networking caught up with the faster speeds many other environments are beginning to enjoy.

Before you spend money on an AP do you know what speeds your GB powerline adaptors are actually giving as it can be quite low in practice.
