[windows software] O365 - 'Free licenses' - with Office on OVS-ES

Coming up to the end of our 3 year OVS-ES deal which I started a separate thread for, but I'd like to know what to ask for in terms of O365.

 

I believe there are some licenses that only a reseller can access and some that are linked to a VLSC account once 'Office' is purchased.

 

We don't use O365 as such for our school (the Head decided to go Google), but there are users that need one or two apps.

 

Initially there was quite a mess finding out what licenses we were entitled to and who could sort them out for us and we ended up with the below...

 

What is going on...? Is there anything I should ensure my reseller knows to enable us to keep using these licenses (and which ones we actually need)..?

 

I'm going to presume that we only really 'need' Office 365 A1 Plus for Faculty and Students, so does anyone know how this is actually applied (is this the one linked to the purchase of Office)...?

Looks like they could be trimmed down a bit but we'd need to be able to see what's on your agreement to advise properly.

You won’t lose the “Plus” licenses once the OVS agreement ends. Once you have it it sticks in your tenant.

 

However you wouldn’t be entitled to use Office Desktop if you do not purchase it on a new OVS agreement.

 

But it would continue to activate and work through the O365 licensing

That's because they're not free on their own anymore. They're now called M365 apps for education and are added onto a paid for agreement.

 

Only the basic A1 (online only) is free for all schools based on MS's last changes

Should be 'easy' but as I and others on here have found it can actually be quite complicated....

 

The Microsoft Open Value Subscription Agreement for Education Solutions (OVS-ES Agreement) is designed for any educational establishments with a Full Time Equivalent (FTE) employees count of less than 1,000 (you must purchase this from a reseller).

 

As others have said, OVES-ES gives you licenses for Office desktop versions and then (as in my case a long drawn out email conversation with various people from Microsoft who will tell you various versions of 'it isn't a thing', 'it doesn't exist', or 'I don't know what that is') you get O365 A1 plus added to your tenency in O365 (which of course you have to create first).

I have a situation where a school wants to give the teachers access to their emails on their iPads using the Outlook iOS app but the council are saying they need to buy these separately does the OVS-EV licence cover iOS Apps as well?

We're using Office Apps happily on iOS devices as part of our OVS-EES agreement. It just asked for the e-mail address to validate the activation.

All of our users are assigned the A1 Plus licence and not the base A1 one (since MS give us "unlimited" licences for users to use Office at home as we have the OVS agreement)

@Brimstone that should be fine. The licence just has to be activated on the device - or are they trying to use the built in IOS app, not the Microsoft one? Don't know if that would work to be honest.

The teachers want be able to use the Outlook iOS App, as well maybe the iOS apps for Word, Excel etc.

As long as they have a valid O365 account, they will be able to install Office apps, it will just need them to validate with their O365 username/password (and hopefully 2FA) ;-)
