Hyper V help - unable to start VM

I ran out of disk space mid Windows updates on our Hyper V server, and upon restart I'm now getting the following error when I try to start the File Server VM:

 

Hyper V Manager - An error occurred while attempting to start the selected virtual machine(s).

 

When deleting some old VM check points (of other VMs - No check points of the File Server as this uses different hard disks in a RAID array) I was extra careful to ensure I didn't delete anything critical - although I'm wondering if somewhere along the lines, one of the files may have been accidently linked. It showed a last modified / accessed date of last year, so I assumed all would be safe to remove.

 

I checked the settings, and I see a IDE Controller > Hard Drive - the virtual hard disk (.vhdx file) is still in that location, and is 42GB which is roughly what I would expect.

 

I have exported the .VHDX file, to a backup hard drive.... is there any ideas on how to get back into the existing VM? All backups (Windows server backup to USB) from that I'm assuming will only work if I can get back into the VM?

I've had this come up when the DVD drive in the host is mapped to another VM.

You are a legend - thank you! I had a look at the various disks attached, and noticed one was in an error state - it had been removed recently. Deleted the association and worked perfect - boots up nicely now! Thanks again
