Senior IT Technician (2^nd line) – SW London / Croydon * URGENT *

Up to £27,978 dependent on experience (initial 6-month “temp to perm” contract)

THIS IS AN URGENT REQUIREMENT - Ideally to start 9th April 2021

 

Our client, a large co-educational school in South West London / Croydon have an urgent requirement for an experienced Senior Technician to take responsibility for the day-to-day direction, supervision, organisation and support of the school’s IT systems and services.

 

Reporting to the IT Network Manager, you will be responsible for the Junior IT Technician and your main duties will include:

 

· Playing a key role in the installation, configuration, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and upgrade of all server hardware and software systems.

· Providing 2^nd line support to applications, systems and hardware including dealing with complex technical issues which require advanced fault-finding and resolution skills

· Managing the network infrastructure, active network devices and cabling systems, including wireless technology and storage systems

· Ensuring network services and protocols including DHCP, DNS and Active Directory are functioning optimally; recommending changes as required

· Implementing system security and configuring access rights to systems and services in accordance with the school’s data and network security policies

· Implementing / monitoring backups, virus protection and disaster recover policies

· Maintaining the internet firewall, web filtering engine and e-mail content control systems to ensure that access to inappropriate material and the risk of intrusion of the network are both minimised

· Actively involved in the installation, configuration, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and upgrade of the school’s PBX/telephone system, handsets, voice network, VoIP infrastructure and CTI products

· Assisting in the development, maintenance, administration and upkeep of the school’s Learning Platform, website, Office 365, Azure, digital resources and CCTV systems

· Maintaining / operating the school’s audio-visual and multimedia systems including, but not limited to the school’s presentation systems, digital signage, music technology, media resources and interactive technologies; providing advanced support and diagnostics for multimedia systems and services

· Allocating helpdesk tickets and ensuring the workload of the team is appropriate and manageable

· Working closely with the IT Network Manager to produce planned maintenance and work schedules to ensure that time is used effectively

· Working closely with the IT Network Manager to identify key ICT plans and priorities and playing a key role in the production of the ICT Development Plan

· Ensuring that equipment asset registers are up-to-date and accurate

· Ensuring all IT-related Health & Safety procedures are followed and implemented at all times, including the production of risk assessments and use of PPE

· Implementing a portable appliance testing schedule

· Producing technical and end-user documentation / training materials as required

· Providing cover and support for colleagues as required, for example due to absence or workload

· Supporting the school’s safeguarding procedures and policies by pro-actively ensuring visitors are signed in and issued with an appropriate lanyard.

· Be keenly aware of the responsibility for safeguarding children and to help in the application of the Safeguarding and Safe Practices policy within the School

· Complying with the School’s Safeguarding Policy to ensure the welfare of children and young persons

 

 

 

To be considered for this role you must have an in-depth knowledge of the following:

· Windows Server 2008/2012, Windows SQL Server 2008/2012, Active Directory, O365, LAN, WLAN, DHCP, DNS, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Hyper-V and Windows clients

· Hardware/software installations and upgrades including AV and printer technologies

· Knowledge and understanding of the FITS and / or ITIL processes

· Working in a similar Senior Technician or Network Manager role with an education environment.
