Dos_Box Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2008/06/10/rm_tim_pearson/ Anyone care to add to the comments, both good and bad (if you are that way inclined) please.
srochford Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 As I'm sure you all know :-) RML was started about 30 years ago in Oxford. The original company was called Sintel and I built a digital clock from a kit of parts supplied by them. things moved on and in the late 70s they released the 380z - a bit of googling finds this advert.
Diello Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 You lot took your time Russ Huh... thought you were taking over his role Russ?
russdev Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 lol Well they offered but couldn't be doing with the commute Russ
laserblazer Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Mike Fischer was the founder. They used to make a Z80 based system that weighed two ton. They developed a market in higher education and saw that as being their niche.
Butuz Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Still got a 380z The VDU interface gives me both uppercase and lowercase characters. It amazes me! Butuz
CyberNerd Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 from the 380z ad: For A level machine language instruction, the 380z has the best software front panel of any computer, this enables a teacher to single-step through programs and observe the effects on registers and memory, using a single keystroke and they say teaching hasn't been dumbed down...
torledo Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 should anyone other than RM shareholders and/or employees care that they've had a change of CEO ? Now if the chief exec. was a minor reality tv star then i might give a toss.....step forward viglens bordan tkachuk, what a player. (now if 'tkachuck' wasn't the perfect name for the product in the tissues tasks i don't know what was - atishoo ??? do me a favour )

It is pretty much irrelevant today (I think most compilers are written in high level languages!) but a few instructions in debug do at least give a feel for what's going on under the hood!

Also correction Mike Fisher founded RM with Michael O’Regan and at very start there was also a friend of Mike and Michael who owned 1/3 of RM but he and other two had a falling out. Russ
Oops_my_bad Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 So RM's fatcat CEO retires - no doubt the old git will get a nice big payout too
russdev Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 So RM's fatcat CEO retires - no doubt the old git will get a nice big payout too Well Tim is a very nice guy if do say so myself... Also is young for a ceo.. Russ
torledo Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 (edited) Well Tim is a very nice guy if do say so myself... Also is young for a ceo.. Russ god luck to him, he's taken over the ship in a strong position it would appear...i think his role will be to continue to build on RM's successes in it's niche areas. i don't know what opportunities there are for the company outside of what they do already...i must admit i don't know a great deal about the company other than their role and influence in education. I know sweet FA about their other govt. and public sector contracts. Don't know much about the division this Tim guy heads up at the moment either. quick look at the LSE values the company at 200 million, don't know if that's value of the company as a whole or just UK ops but it does sound about right....i'd imagine SCC are worth slightly more, i know computacenter are worth a bit more (£250m) and serco are valued a lot higher...but then serco do a lot more than just IT....RM are there or there abouts with their main competitiors. In their own pond RM are doing quite well but there's always room for expansion. Looking into it a bit deeper, there aren't any companies of comparable size in RM's niche within a niche.....SCC, computacenter, even northate have a greater diversity of clients/sectors....RM as solely education and education related is the 900-pound gorilla, which creates problems aswell as opportunities.
