penfold Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 I have a specific client that I cannot get to connect to WSUS Server. If I go to the http://WSUSServer:Port/selfupdate/wuident.cab I can get the prompt to download the file so I know connection is OK. But if I run an update now I get an error message 0x80244022. Quick google shows that this is caused by application pool stopping on WSUS, but there is no issue on the server. If I look at the logs on the WSUS server I only see connection for the time I manually check the connection in a web browser. I see no connection attempts when I try to do a windows update. The client has been software distribution folder has been renamed and the client has had a reset performed, but I still can't connect to the Server. To me it looks like the client is using a proxy and there could be an issue there, but I am not sure why this would happen if I can get the prompt to download the file. Any suggestions?
jthompson Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Have you tried flushing the DNS cache on the client? That error code suggests the client encounters some kind of network problem, and flushing DNS is usually a good place to start.
penfold Posted March 5, 2021 Author Posted March 5, 2021 OK, I narrowed this down to some Proxy issue I think. If I enable the proxy settings in IE and exclude address with the WSUS server it allows me to download. However, the Windows update still looks like it is going through a proxy. I'm checking the registry for proxy configuration but I can't see which setting I need to change. In some places Proxy is enabled and others it is not. I'm trying to find out now if a proxy is supposed to be used and if not I'll remove disable all the settings I find. But I think this may be a cached entry from the past
