Hi All,

Complete noob when it comes to this box - a Meru MC4200.

I need to copy the backup config off the box but I can't work out how to do it. The instructions on the Fortinet KB fail when it comes to copying the file offbox. It tries to process the password and doesn't like it - possibly because it has a special character in it - just guessing

Meru Technical Note - How do I Back Up and Restore the configuration of my controller (fortinet.com)

The box has two USB ports - surely there's a way to dump the backup to a USB stick?

Ideas?

TIA

Mark P.

I've just done this now...

I used FileZilla on a laptop, connected to the same subnet as the controller (an MC3200 in our case)

Connect to FileZilla as 'localhost' on port 14147. (I used the password 'meru')

Once connected, I set the username and password in the users section of FileZilla to meru/meru (or whatever else you want to use)

SSH onto the controller

merucontroller#copy running-config backupconfig

merucontroller#copy backupconfig ftp://meru:meru@FileZillaIPaddress/backupconfig

Make sure you specify the correct username and password that you set in FileZilla (in the example above it's meru/meru) and specify the correct IP address of the computer running FileZilla.

The file should then transfer correctly.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for this. I've installed Filezilla on a server that is on the same VLAN as the Meru. I can SSH to the Meru from that server and I have setup a shared folder etc as part of the Filezilla setup. Only issue is I am unable to connect to the FTP from the Meru. I'm not sure exactly what is blocking it but I'm hoping that as both devices are on the same vlan then the transfer is not attempting to go via the internet. I did try using the external IP address of the server but this failed as well. Not sure what to do from here.

I've done this but in a slightly different way. Something on our servers was blocking the FTP connection so I popped outside the box and onto the cloud. Created a free FTP account on a cloud provider and managed to copy the backup there. Downloaded it back to our network and then deleted the account etc....

Wouldn't have got that far without your suggestion so much appreciation!
