If you work in education, you should be able to get access to the Microsoft Imagine Academy for free:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/education/imagine-academy/default.aspx

Not 100% on what licences are free, but you used to be able to get all operating systems with full licences.

You can also get Azure trials and deploy servers for free.

I've just subscribed to a Microsoft 365 Business Basic account at my own expense (£3.80/month) so that I can play with all the settings in the admin console without any chance of breaking anything that's user affecting - also seemed like a cheap way of getting 1TB cloud storage.

Office 365 sign up for the Microsoft 365 Developer Program. Free developer sandbox free, renewable 90-day Microsoft 365 E5 developer subscription.

Awesome, sorry to ask silly questions. The scenario i need to replicate is a full AD, a production 365, I need to set it to replicate some accounts via azure connect. Do you yhink this would be possible or does the sandbox stop me from connecting to an AD?

This should be possible. I really haven't found anything I cant do in the Developer program that I can with our Regular Tenant besides access the education specific things like the intune for education portal.

Not silly question at all. it allows connecting to an AD via ad connect but it is best to have a test AD system to connect to really as I would not use a live AD. Users you can add quiet a few it just you will not be able to licence more then the licence count for dev plan.

It’s all good. You can create a Windows server VM in the freebie tenant/azure trial, install AD & AD Connect, and fill your boots.

This may or may not help but I did some Azure training recently:

I used these resources which I can recommend:

AZ-900:

https://www.udemy.com/course/microsoft-azure-fundamentals-training-bootcamp/

AZ-104:

https://www.udemy.com/course/70533-azure/

These labs using the free credit for new accounts from MS:

AZ-900:

https://github.com/MicrosoftLearning/AZ-900T0x-MicrosoftAzureFundamentals

az-104:

https://github.com/MicrosoftLearning/AZ-104-MicrosoftAzureAdministrator

Then these practise exams:

There's some MS training up with free azure exam vouchers too, thats on my radar but i'm working on MS700 at the moment. It's a whole new world for an old dog like me!

I've labbed out the new domain today, tomorrow i'll setup 365 to replicate the current situation, then Saturday i'll start with AD connect. Wish me luck folks!

Thanks again for all the help
