Office 365 in a school

Hi All,

 

We're looking at deploying Office 365 desktop apps to our machines in a school environment. My question is, how are other schools doing this in such a way that the maximum 5 licenses per user doesn't cause any problems? As far as I can tell, if someone was to log into 5 devices around the school it would cause them problems signing into office on other machines.

 

If anyone could offer any kind of insight as to how we do this without those problems, that'd be great.

One thing I found is that to get it to work reliably, I had to hybrid join all our computers to the Azure AD as well as our local AD. Otherwise seamless SSO didn't seem reliable at all.

This is great, thanks. I was looking at the Azure AD stuff yesterday so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. My main concern was licensing and how we'd get around that.

Share activation = saving the activation file on the server so it's available wherever you log in iirc

As has been mentioned, Shared Computer Activation means it won't use up the "5 device" count for users, and your devices will need to be hybrid joined for SSO to behave itself properly (without this you'll find some work but others are asked to type their credentials in). As long as you've licensed either the FTE count (OVS licensing) or licensed everyone who's going to use it (CSP/M365 A3 licences for staff, which come with free A3 licences for students) you'll be properly licensed. Only downside with this route is people you've given A1 can't use the apps.

How you licence the Azure AD will depend on numbers of staff/pupils and the FTE count of your OVS.
