A word of warning to any of you with the DfE Geobooks! We had our final batch of these delivered last week. While configuring them this week we discovered quite a number of them came with a virus installed on them!

The laptops are infected with a self-propagating network worm (Gamarue.I). We have informed the DfE helpdesk who have said we weren't the only school to have notified them of this! I did ask them to notify schools but they still haven't as I write this so thought I should post on here!

The manufacturer has sais the recovery partition shouldn't include the infected files so we can reset them to factory default but we aren't taking the risk and have taken the descision to completely wipe all of them before use.

Yeah I saw that post. Didn't search all of it but thought the fact they come with a virus installed should probably have a more prominant thread of it's own!

It seems very much to be dependant on batch/style e.g. DfE lockdown or not etc, as the only reports so far seem to be of a new batch (after Christmas) of non-lockdowned ones. But as mentioned lots more details in other one :p

I had no idea everyone else was getting shipped those GeoBooks.. we were sent Dell Latitude 3190’s. Haven’t had any alerts..

It depends what the site had available when you selected. We've had HP, Dell and Geo books so far

we selected for the secure DFE ones, has anyone got any of these, again these are the dell 3190 im not opening them up, we are just sending them straight out as there is no point doing anything to them, as they are managed by "Dfe" Edited by kevin_lane
