LanView 3 set up guide - some help?

Is their a simple set up guide for LanView 3 somewhere?

 

I've found the guide on the LanView pages, but this is more an explanation of what things do rather than how to set them up.

 

For example this is what I want to achieve :

 

I have a room with 25 client PC's and a teacher PC.

 

I have installed LanView Client on the 25 client machines, and the LanView Server on the teachers machine.

 

On the server, I have created a group called "Room A" and added all the client machines into that group.

 

I have also set up PC's in another room, Room B, exactly the same but with a different room name and group, namely "Room B".

 

The teacher logs in to Room A and can see her PC's listed in the Room A group, but can also see the PC's from Room B in the "all stations" group and has the ability to administer those too.

 

Can I set LanView up so that the teacher logging in to Room A can ONLY see Room A PC's, can only administer those PC's, and has no way of seeing other PC's such as Room B?

 

I presume I need to do something on the 'server' machine in Room A to achieve this?

 

Additionally, can I customise LanView's tool bars to remove some of the icons when a teacher is logged in, but have full view when a admin (such as an IT Technician) is logged in?

 

My worry is that students who log onto these machines (such as when showing their work on the interactive board) will have access to LanView and all it's wonders!

 

As such, is there a way to only allow certain users to log in to LanView?

You can set up a password the needs to be entered before LVM Server will start up this is under File...options...security.. put something in the LanView 3 Server security box. this will stop unauthorised users from starting it up.

 

You can add a new group and assign machines to that group. Then if you right click the group and select Open at startup it will do just that, but the user will still have access to the All Stations group.

You could also use different VNC passwords for different rooms. It wouldnt stop Room A from shutting down computers in Room B but at least they wouldnt be able to see the Room B desktops.

You can put an IP address in the client security settings to only allow lanview connections from certain machines. You add the teachers IP address and your machine to allow you access to all the machines and the teacher to only be able to see their room.

 

All clients show up in the Lan view manager, but the teacher cannot remotely access them. And as JJones says,make sure you put a password on the manager program so only authorised people can run it.
