Sput1985 Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 Afternoon all, I have seen many pages about disabling pupils from messaging a team, however only one for disabling chat privately which was to turn off private chat for the tenant. Is it possible to stop pupils from using the Chat to send private messages, but leave their ability to message a team? However leave the private chat on so that teachers can send 1 to 1 direct messages? Many thanks
PeterH Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 Looking at this at the moment. I believe you can achieve this by setting a messaging policy with the "Chat" setting switched off and applying to your students. This will prevent them from chatting privately (removes the chat icon on the left-hand side of Teams) but they can still "Post" in channels. And they can still chat in meetings (if not muted). Assuming you don't apply this policy to teachers then they will be able to chat 1:1 still (but not to students with the messaging policy applied)
chaplic Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 Peter's correct, I've done just that in regulated environments (not that difference in end users tbh) before the ability to record the 1:1 chat. Just be aware the un-doing it is not slick.
