I have been tasked to prepare up to 50 laptops for pupils and/or staff for use at home in the event we enter lockdown again. - I won't get in to the politics of them removing devices from site and yes I know I'll probably never see them again, but then it's not my stuff/budget.

We currently have a stock of domain laptops for on site use only.

How would/do you do it?

- Re-image/flatten laptops with basic Windows & admin rights - do the reverse if/when they return?

- Create a local admin on each device and hand it out (eg: .\localaccount)

- Manually log on to each laptop as a pupil (or super-pupil with rights to WiFi settings)

I don't have any MDM set up as the school is in the dark ages (I have only had it a few months)

That's what we went with. Local admin rights, Teams/Office/Chrome/VLC etc preinstalled. Form/paper for parents to sign etc, nothing else from our side.

Easy to prebuild a bunch up too ready to assign out to that last minute person :p

Set a bios password

Create a local .\ account with full admin rights.

When they return them, wipe them and add school image.

It’s a lot quicker and less hassle.

We've left ours on the domain to allow us to manage them as usual, added a local student account and configured them for always on VPN
