TwistedHelixis Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 We have been offered a batch of 2017 5th gen iPads for slightly less than we could get from ebay. I am not really an iPad user and cost is not my main concern, I am wondering (from a software perspective) how much longer these should keep running before we would need to replace them.
tg12 Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 iOS update wise, it’s always hard to say for definite but I would expect at least another 2 to 3 years. 1

Even though you can update these to iPadOS 14 I have 2 issues with 2nd hand iPads... Unless these have never been enrolled it’s very unlikely you can add these to DEP. You would therefore need an up to date Mac as well in order to use Apple Configurator to get them Supervised and enrolled into Apple School Manager. Double, even triple check that they are signed out of iCloud and Find My and have been properly wiped with a data destruction cert, the last thing you want are any GDPR Issues. I’d say a maximum of 2 years possible usage with an up to date version of IOS Edited December 1, 2020 by Brimstone
