O365 external e-mail groups

I've been asked to add into O365 e-mail groups for parents, by all, year and then form.

 

I've already told them we can e-mail from SIMS but this is falling on deaf ears. We'll be moving to Arbor in April, can this also e-mail to parents?

We are going to start up sharepoint which i am a good way in now. When i get to the parental portal aren't I going to need to add in the parents anyway?

 

I'm also exploring the sds stuff but i don't see how this would enable me to setup distribution groups for e-mail
