Hulbert99 Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Hi all, Has anyone got a new M1 Apple Device (ideally a mac mini) and running the Adobe CC suite yet? I have noted this linke https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/apple-silicon-m1-chip.html but wondered if anyone has some real world performance experience with it please? Thanks
markrobertsbarter Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Are you asking about the whole suite running under Rosetta 2, or the Photoshop native M1 Beta?
Hulbert99 Posted December 1, 2020 Author Posted December 1, 2020 This user primarily uses Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator. Thanks
markrobertsbarter Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 OK. In a nutshell: Photoshop Beta already runs much faster than the Intel build and will - likely - be fully supported by Adobe in January or February. You should note that there currently isn’t feature-parity between the two PS versions, though! InDesign and Illustrator have no published roadmap for support from Adobe. So, you could be waiting for months. A graphic designer friend of mine has tried InDesign on her M1 MacBook Air and says that it is much slower than her Intel MacBook Pro. I would expect this to continue through the first half of 2021, at least.
DalekSec Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Personally wouldn't buy a M1 for an mission critical work loads currently. Give it time to bed in and iron out bugs and get support. If you need a device ASAP that 'just works' get an Intel based one. If you're ok with a few problems for the next 6 months or so then go ahead with the M1 (I would but i'm waiting for the M2!)
