Teacher accessing student areas but disable up button..

Ok here's what i want to do.

 

I want/need to let teachers have access to their own classes individual home areas. The home areas are currently stored on \\server\users

 

What i had thought of doing is creating a folder for each class with shortcuts to each users folder on the share and then give the staff read only access to those folders. This works fine.

 

The problem is if a teacher clicks on the shortcut to the users home area and then click the UP button insted of the back button they then see the whole of the users directory. ie \\server\users rather than \\server\users\user1

 

Does anyone know a way that i can either stop them using the up button or a better way to achieve what i want?

We map a drive at logon, allowing then read and list only

We have a U:\ driver (U for users!) mapped to all staff at logon, which gives them read only access to all student user areas. Selected ICT staff and SLT members have Read/Write access as it was requested from above. This causes horrendous problems with staff not understanging the difference with cut and copy! Never give out read/write access unless you absolutely have to.

 

Data protection issues have been discussed, and it was decided that as long as the students are aware staff have access to their home areas, then there was no come back, so all Students are made aware of this fact when they start at the school. It helps cut down on the amount of music and dodgey photos of stuff that the kids keep in their home areas, as insted of just the 4 of us looking at them, there's now 150 people keeping an eye on things!

Like others we have mapped a drive, to which staff have access, covering pupil home directories

 

However our oldest children are 11. Exam boards get touchy about staff having access to course work at secondary level; so you need to be careful if you are at a secondary school.

Ive done the same as all above with a mapped drive, but ive taken it another degree where allowing only access to a certain year/class dependant on what year a teacher teachers.

 

Example: JSmith teachers 7-9, 11

The U:\ is mapped to all secondary (7-12 in aus) and then folders 10 and 12 are "Access denied" when accessed.

 

Administration seem to like that - so we ran with it.

What we do is put each teacher and room into a security group ie. Room One then the logon script checks which room group each user is in and maps the necessary drive accordingly.
