DirtySnipe Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I have Joomla ver 1.5.3 running on an xampp web server. (windows 2003 SE OS) Joomla has installed fine and is working but i cannot get the file upload to work. It asks if i would like to upload a file from my computer but it wont get past trying to upload section.. Where are the settings I need to configure and what do I need to configure for a windows os setup?
Michael Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I would check permissions with IIS6 (Internet Information Services). Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services IIS Manager

Michael Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I'm sure it does use FTP to upload and download files, however if you don't have permissions to write to a web server, then you wont be able to upload files.
DirtySnipe Posted June 6, 2008 Author Posted June 6, 2008 Ok so I have enabled an ftp server and setup a user account and have added that into the global config file. what do i enter in the FTP Root : in the global config settings? (windows os with xampp webserver not iis)
alonebfg Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I would enter a user that has permissions to upload to the server the details are hidden to standard users also check the the remember password is checked.
SimpleSi Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 When I played with xampp. AFAIR as a default, the ftp server had its own folder that it classed as root. the folder was completely separate from where web files were held. I couldn't be bothered fiddling to find out if it can be changed. If say the "root" of your website was something like xxx/yyy and you'd installed egJP into xxx/yyy/eg then the global config ftp root would be set to /eg. Like I say, you'd have to get your ftp server to acknowledge that xxx/yyy was root first it doesn't really matter as long as you don't want to really run a site from an xampp package remotely. Just use windoze explorer to copy files into folders. The FTP functions WILL work on a real world server regards Simon

Why wont docman module work????? I have set the details as far as i can see but it still will not go past step 2 (file upload). Is there anyway of getting a debug file (log file) of this process as it just goes back to step two.
SimpleSi Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I don't know what the problem is but can you confirm that you've set your ftp servers root path to be the same as your websites root path? e.g if you connect to your ftp server using a normal ftp client - it defaults to seeing all the jooomla folders admin/cache/documents etc and configuration.php type files. regards Simon

It goes though the motions of uploading but does'nt do anything

SimpleSi Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 bells are starting to go off - when i migrated my 1.0. site to 1.5.3, the head said docman wouldn't work and so he went and found latest docman module and re-installed it. I don't have local FTP setup so I can't test it locally Maybe it is borked! Try giving it a go - I think latest is docman 1.4 RC3 regards Simon
DirtySnipe Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Ive downloaded the latest ver and it still aint getting past the upload part. Is there another module like this that is tried and tested 100% working??
