OneDrive + MFA + macOS Catalina - excessively flaky of late?

I know this is a fairly niche combination, but has anyone seen this behaviour?

  • Office 365-linked OneDrive account using MFA
  • Mac running Catalina
  • OneDrive not configured to run at login
  • Super-flaky about remembering credentials and OneDrive folder location.
  • No obvious whining in Office 365/Azure logs about auth problems
  • Permissions on the folder it's trying to sync to are correct (OneDrive processes have permissions)
  • Isn't restricted to specific OneDrive client versions.
  • Unrelated to the state of the optional "Don't ask me about MFA for 30 days" checkbox

Intermittently, but frequently enough to be annoying, when launched OneDrive appears to have lost most (everything but email address used) or all config or awareness of such or where the local OneDrive folder is stored.

When run through setup again (provide credentials / MFA token, re-point to correct folder and let it grind through reconciling local and cloud versions) it does function.

I'm at 33/33/33 between "OneDrive devs did a terrible job with the macOS version and MFA", "something in Office 300 is falling over again" and "Catalina should be prompting for some input here, but it's not doing so".
