MrWu Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Hi all The SLTs are thinking of migrating our Outlook 365 mailbox into Gmail, so apparently they feel that Google classroom will integrate better. Are there any pitfalls in doing this? I was thinking of migrating a few staff and student as a test first? Thanks !

We didn’t see any pitfalls.
robyholmes Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 @timbo343 I'm sure they'd welcome your thoughts. 1
paulkerton Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 I moved from 365 mail to Gmail in a school I used to work in a few years ago. 200,000 emails moved over with only 1 with an issue. It was very smooth, and that was with the older tools. There are newer tools available now (if you're Enterprise) or paid for solutions also.
mwnci Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 We use 365 Mail and Google Classroom. I remain unconvinced that the two are mutually exclusive. Notifications regarding Google Classroom activity just go to the 365 mailbox.
MrWu Posted November 10, 2020 Author Posted November 10, 2020 Thanks all; we have a hybrid Office 365 at the moment, was thinking of migrating a few mailboxes first.. looking at this guide: https://support.google.com/a/answer/180898?hl=en
timbo343 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I did our Office365 to Googlemail over a month. Just keep running the google migration tool. Fortunately we were moving to a new domain so (even to this day) we have our old domain - for emails - sat there on office365. I have since added our new domain to our office365 tenant and now have the best of both world with emails just on Google.
MrWu Posted November 11, 2020 Author Posted November 11, 2020 Had an idea for interim testing. The primary domain for Google belongs to Office 365 (as in the account name and email) so MX records belong there. I have a verified domain that is free and have the MX records as Google.. I was thinking of making that Primary so teachers and students can have Gmail switched on and test, if I switch this to primary, will that affect their current login name? ie I hope to retain their current login domain name, just their email address needs changing.
