AWS - EC2 with public IP

Morning all,

 

Getting the wonderful world of AWS, and it is making my brain hurt.

 

We want to test a single server in the cloud to act as a gateway for a proposed DR setup for our BigBluebutton servers.

 

This will involve a single t3.small with a public IP, that will run Scalelite, the BBB scaling system, which will then connect to our BBB VM's on site(with public IP addressing at our end)

 

Now, do we need R53 or a VPC to do this? ie to get a public IP? We don't need to run BBB in the cloud, hence not really needing a VPC, but not sure on public IP addressing in a single instance.

 

Any pointers into how this hell works?
