Cheap webcams (~£15) with microphone and plug and play functionality

Hi all,

Like many schools we're going the route of putting webcams with mics in classrooms so teachers at home can see/hear their classes.

We have many rooms but not much budget - it seems we're limited to the roughly £15 cheap stuff on Amazon.

We've tried a couple of models but the mics aren't being detected (mis-advertised plug and play...) - has anybody here had any luck in this price range who might be able to point me to a model? Not expecting miraculous picture or mic quality, mainly we just need them to plug and play.

Many thanks for any advice!

We are in the same situation as to where i am at.

We have just brought about 70 Wansview cameras. They are slightly more above your budget but here is the link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/wansview-1080P-Webcam-with-Microphone/dp/B086QTK3NL/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&aaxitk=D83o9gEoLjH3W1htZBagcA&hsa_cr_id=5895203220802&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_mcd_asin_0

I will say the camera and microphone is definitely not the best what so ever (mic can sound muffled at time when in use) but for us in the situation that we are, they do exactly what they say on the tin. No drivers need to be installed, and it is simply plug and play.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Jay - Will keep these in mind if we expand our budget! Got quite a few to order so might be hard to convince Finance to go for stuff over £20... might be forced to if anything cheaper isn't performing properly!

As is being discussed in other threads - do you really need a webcam? If most of the content is powerpoint then screens can be shared and all you need is a microphone. If budgets are tight you might be better off reducing the functionality a little and doing 1 thing well rather than 2 things badly.

We recently bought 9 of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Victure-Microphones-Computers-Desktop-Conference-SC30/dp/B086QF84DK/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XEPRTDGCQB15D6D5AQH9 and I'm sending them all back. 5 of them have issues, where the microphone just cuts out after 5-10 seconds, no matter what application is being used. Once it cuts out, no input is registered anywhere, and it only happens once an application makes use of the microphone. It seems to be a driver or firmware issue as they're not consistently recognised in device manager as the same make/model.

Plugging in another type of webcam (HUE or other) works fine.
