[sims] Exam sub-sites in SIMS

We use SIMS Exams Organiser for submitting our Exams entries and BTEC registrations. As we have a collaborative arrangement for BTECs, Edexcel have set us up as a main site and a sub-site (centre number XXXXX - so for Edexcel BTECs our main site is now XXXXXA and the sub-site XXXXXB).

I have contacted Capita SIMS Help to ask how to use SIMS Exams Organiser so that the sub-site can be included when creating BTEC registrations and exam entries. The advice was that, to use a sub-site, I change the Centre number in the set up before I generate the file for the relevant students, but as it needs an A or a B attached and the filed only seems to accept a 5 digit number I don't think this will work.

Does anyone else have BTEC sub-sites and use SIMS that could advise how they make registrations and entries please.

Its some years since I did this but my memory is that the way it works is that you work as a consortium - I have not come across this idea of sub-sites before.

Is the sub-site a part of your organisation or a seperate centre in its own right. If its a seperate centre I asssume the following will apply:

Hi, Thanks for the info - unfortunately we are under the exceptional arrangement as we subcontract teaching of 1 subject to an organisation with specialist staff, so they don't have a separate centre number. Instead Edexcel have added an 'A' to our centre number for the 'main site' and a 'B' to the centre number for students studying the one subject with external staff coming on site for teaching.

Right. As you say, you immediately hit a snag with the CN being the "wrong" format and I doubt SIMS Exams Organiser could cope with this easily.

You are probably better just doing everything using Edexcel Online and transferring the results into SIMS using a results marksheet at the end of the course, or even putting them in using EDIT PI.Whether thats reasosnable largely depends on the number of learners.
