Just noticed that the last few updates on https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/ have been enterprise only. It's starting to smell like all the good new stuff going forward will be going that way, I guess it was only a matter of time

I think it's a little earlier to draw a conclusion. Often, updates drop down after time, so it will be interesting to see if that continues. On the topic of GSuite, the Meet changes for non Enterprise offered for free since April are confirmed as ending tomorrow - https://www.theverge.com/2020/9/26/21457293/google-meet-limit-meeting-free-plans-september-zoom. Personally, I think any meeting online over an hour is too long anyway.

I honestly didn't know about the 60 min limit being removed. That should be fun tomorrow - some governors are attending meetings via meet and the meetings definitely go over 60 mins...

Are you sure that applies to education accounts ? All I'm reading is private accounts?

Its about £2 per user per month. I was paying three times as much as that for LA provided email services (1GB each!) before Google and Microsoft came along with their offerings.

Enterprise users get:

• Q&A
  
• Polling
  
• Breakout Rooms
  
• Attendance Tracking
  

Everyone gets:

 

• Hand raising
  
• Disable in meeting chat
  
• Disable the ability to share screen
  
• Stop participants from rejoining after being denied entry twice or being ejected
  
• Turn off quick access. This will then require anyone who isn't invited via Google Calendar to a Google Meet to request access before entering
  
• End meeting for all particpants when meeting is finished
  
• Require teacher to join first from a Google Classroom Link Meet

I don't think that's a poor trade off, considering the things they've put behind Enterprise are more server use intense.

All staff is about £25 per person per year (ish)

Individual staff is about £45 per person per year (ish)

 

So if you need more than half your staff to have it, but not everyone. It's cheaper to license it for everyone.

And frankly, students don't need the functions so I wouldn't worry about licensing them ever. It's the hosts that need the features, not the people joining.

 

60/100 staff would be £2,700 (ish)

100/100 staff would be £2,500 (ish)

 

Microsoft would be much more expensive. Equivalent features in Enterprise (like local numbers for calling into Meets and PowerBI vs BigQuery/Data Studio) are in A5 which is £84.60 a month or

 

60/100 staff - £5,076

100/100 staff - £8,460

 

Plus don't you need to be site licensed as a school to even get A1, or did that change?

No. Only for the people that need the features as a host.

If a student goes into a Meet of someone that has Enterprise, they can access things like Q&A, Polling, Breakout rooms etc.

But again, students, unless they need the features of Enterprise don't actually need it to be licensed at all. We are only licensing SLT for our primary, and select staff who need advanced features for our Secondary.

Google have just announced they are extending the Google Meet offer of over 60 minutes in to next year -good news for (consumer) users!

So we finally got our licences (took 9 days), and I've got to say I much prefer Googles way of assigning licences over the Microsoft model. So which features that I've missed should I be looking at straightaway ? First thing will be the gmail sandbox I think

I thought the minimum number was 50 staff or 25% whichever is higher for enterprise licences?

Am I supposed to apply G Suite Enterprise for Education (Student) licences to student users ? I can't seem to find anything that explains the difference between a G Suite Enterprise for Education licence and a G Suite Enterprise for Education (Student) licence

Found this out,

 

- Enterprise for Education for Students do not have recording ability in Google Meet, whereas the regular Enterprise does

 

- E4E for Students is limited to 3 originality reports in Google Classroom whereas regular Enterprise is unlimited

Well, after speaking with Google it turns out there is no difference

 

The difference is to make it easier to apply licences (paid staff vs free student licences)

 

Oh and if anyone is signing up for enterprise - be careful when putting student numbers down - the 10:1 thing is UPTO 10:1 - so if you have 80 staff you won't automatically get 800 student licences - you'll get whatever you put in your student numbers.

It depends on whoever the host is (or the first person in is, if it's a Google Classroom Meet).

 

Though with the change from G Suite to Google Workspace, I'm sure they'll have more to announce about the Google Workspace for Education changes incoming at their event in a few weeks about licensing and what happens.
