JAMF unable to copy photos off iPad

We recently switched from Lightspeed to JAMF for our MDM. Since this we're unable to copy photos off via File Explorer, we don't get the allow access prompt on the iPad.

 

Im assuming this is caused by a restriction we have set in JAMF, however, I've gone through the Profile applied and there's nothing obvious which is causing this.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated

There's a few USB option on the config profiles. I'm not sure which one it might be. Have you tried:

 

USB drive access in Files app

I know USB restricted mode needs to be restricted (disallowed) to allow usb cables to work without putting in the passcode.

You are using a cloud based MDM to manage the iPads then still wanting to plug the iPad into a computer to get photo's from it?

Does JAMF have built-in storage?

 

We used to do a similar thing with a small set of iPads that were used in PE. They were not 1-1, and the students would take hundreds/thousands of photos on them over the course of a day for evidence. The easiest way to get the data off was to plug into a PC with a nice big HDD and let the photos sync off.

 

Cloud upload was/is much slower and because the devices were not 1-1 it wouldn't have been appropriate for the students to sign in to G Suite on the iPads

 

 

Also, OP does not state whether he has the on-premise or cloud version of JAMF

We have cloud based, retrieving the images via the cloud wouldn't work for us as our iPads are signed in with device assigned accounts. I realise that's not the correct way to do it, however, we're a special school and requiring the kids to sign in to the iPad would likely result in multiple smashed iPads

The correct way to do it is whatever is most effective in your situation.

I shall clarify.

 

As you are signed in with an ID, the iPads have an Apple ID, therefore they have a icloud account, which the photos would be uploaded to so you can sign into this and retrieve them.

 

If you have an iPad, use AirPlay to get the photos from the iPads.

 

 

I deal with over 40 schools with some students that have severe learning difficulties, most schools implemented Google Photos with accounts that the students do not know. All photos are synced to a Google account that are retrievable by staff whether the students are in school or not (some of these are hospital schools)
