Identifying what RFID card type we use

This might be a really straightforward question but it's not something I've really looked into before so would appreciate some help.

 

Basically, company we bought ID cards from in the past has closed to the 'rona. We can now print our own cards by borrowing an ID card printer from our academy trust, however, I don't know what type of RFID card to buy (e.g. Mifare 1k, mifare 4k, paxton etc.). Stupidly never got that info when I took over.

 

Current badges get scanned using a USB reader which gives a 11 digit number, this goes into AD and gets pulled by the printers. We then convert do some conversion on that to get it to work with our door entry system and finally enrol the card on our entrysign system.

 

Any ideas?

Going for the non-technical answer, can you not search for a PO for a previous card order? If that doesn't have all the information, you ought to be able to contact the vendor and ask for more details.

If you tap an Oyster card or bank card on a reader and get a response, then you're probably ok with the mifare 1k.

 

If you can get one of the door card readers off, you can look up the part number on the back and see what that supports. There is normally a screw on the bottom of the reader.

If you have a phone with NFC then just tap a card on your phone and a tool like MiFARE classic tool/ tag info you can read the card details see image

In fact some of these tools will clone the card so you can use your phone as the token rather than the card token.
