There's no one simple answer and opinions will vary. There are clear market leaders, and a number of providers growing at good pace. Assuming you are looking for a solution for a school or MAT you work for, context is an important factor. Could you provide the following:

 

School pupil numbers

State or independent

Phase: Primary, Secondary, all-though or something else

Curriculum and exams

Location: England or elsewhere

Budget

Current MIS

Third Party Bolt-ons

 

Perhaps most importantly, what do you want to achieve with your MIS?

'Best' is a relative term, but even if you defined 'best' as it applies to you, I doubt anyone will have the in depth experience of all the available platforms to give you a definitive answer.

You asked the same question about VLEs.

 

What role do you hold in your establishment? If you’re responsible for the purchase and/or installation of these systems, you need to be doing more research than simply asking what’s best.

 

What you have been asking is like asking “How long is a piece of string?”

 

The answer depends on your setting, the people using it and the IT infrastructure you have in place. Even cloud based systems are affected by what IT provision you have on site, including the speed of your internet connection.

The VLE question I found curious. I'm finding this one even more curious.

For all of these questions, you can't just throw a dart at a dartboard and decide that because you hit number 15, that number 15 on the list is the one you go for.

 

Ultimately, you need to decide that by speaking to your stakeholders, deciding what they want from a VLE, working out what your infrastructure is capable of delivering and then speaking to the cloud providers and working out if what they offer is suitable for your desired goals. You should also investigate the general business, and how viable the business is in the long term.
