What printer for an IT suite.

I'm looking for a new colour printer for the IT suite. It will replace an old HP 3800 that is just about dead.

 

I am getting prices for leasing and buying outright just need some recommendations on which printer to buy. We already have 3 MFD dotted around the school so don't need scanning capabilities in the suite.

how about no printer? We took them out of IT suites years ago due to mass abuse, staff now use the MFD and student beg, borrow or pay to use the MFD

It's for a primary so supervision is not a problem and on this floor the MDF is through the hall and they wouldn't want lots of students off on a jolly collecting prints.

ok, my next questions would be why do they need to print in the first place, but you say primary, so different use case. You have to weigh up the ink/toner vs hardware conundrum, usually cheap printer, expensive consumabled. We had a Dell colour laser years ago, where the set of toners was more than the price of the printers!!! Think it was a Lexmark rebrand back then. I would say any HP colour laser these days would fit the bill, just look at toner prices, and see if you go up the price scale for the printer, does toner come done and make more sense.

Yeah for the kids, but my experience wasn't that it was the kids who abused the printing.

We're a primary school, we have a small desktop copier on contract with all our other copiers in the block outside the IT suite that serves that room and 2 classrooms nearby. Best thing ever not having to worry about toners / maintenance etc with printers - we have none in the school now.

This is the current problem we have on a Brother 6050 in an IT suite that is end of life. It's been abused by certain faculties.

 

But that's what's Papercut reporting is also for. It's a bit different for IT staff like me who print once in a blue moon. But for others who regularly print hundreds of pages of documents, well that's what we have the proper heavy-duty copiers for.

 

Also the same ones who don't refill the paper tray and don't report faults when it doesn't work.
