Hi all,

I seem to be going around in circles with what to do regarding backups within our trust. After a more thorough audit it seems that the backup requirements due to not having quota's etc. are larger than first anticipated (some primary sites up to 1tb) so my plan to put it all in Azure may work out on the expensive side.

I am now considering various options and looking for the most cost effective, but reliable, solution. One idea at present is to put a NAS either within schools, or centrally, and backup from sites to this using Duplicati (we have a VPN between sites although speeds are not the greatest!). Is anyone using duplicati and if so how are you finding it? Have read that as it is in Beta it can be problematic, but good to hear real world experience.

Cheers,

Michael

Yes we use duplicati. It backs up our 30 or so encrypted staff laptops to their own gdrive daily. It has saved their bacon a few times and let's us quickly restore their data to a new laptop. Occasionally Duplicati breaks a backup but it's quick enough to reinstall the profile. Duplicati monitoring website https://www.duplicati-monitoring.com/ sends a daily report of all the backups. Brilliant. Having said that we use VEEAM free to backup to our NAS boxen as it's more solid.
