Hi All

Planning for some form of Hybrid teaching ( on site / remote learning ) in Sept.0

We are going to offer laptops to students who do not have sufficient kit at home so wondering if any of you do any form of Intel gathering on what equipment students have that’s pretty basic / low level technical

Thinking of a really quick tick list that students could tick off about their home setup

1. Do you have internet

2. Laptop / Pc / Tablet

3. RAM / CPU - from system properties (showing tjem how to get to it / Same for Mac)

2. Webcam

Cheers all

Ask about internet connection as well, and make it clear that you want to know what type of connection.

Don't rely on any of it though. We had a 20% response rate from pupils, and that suggested we had 90% internet connectivity and 98% their own device to access the net. That statistically should've given us around a margin of error of 6%

The connectivity seemed pretty accurate but many of the kids went into full "making it up as they go along" mode when asked what kinds of devices. Seems like they all did it with their peers they'd exagerrated to over their shoulders.

Suffice to say they didn't have the device access they claimed, so we had to scramble some of the older just hitting EoL devices together to send out at the last minute.

Yeah item 1 is internet , but I fully get what your saying. Just as lockdown happened we asked every student if they needed a device...

20% response rate.. then when the building closed it drastically shot up.... and even now we’re still getting requests saying “oh didn’t realise I needed one”
