Acronis Cloud Cyber Backup

Is anyone using Acronis Cloud backup?

If so, how long have you been using it, have you had any issues, ransomware attacks etc where data was non-retrievable?

Do you have any security concerns over it..i.e over-engineered i.e ability to pass through a remote desktop connection from the acronis cloud platform to the local server?

I inherited it at the school I look after. It's only used to backup the business managers PC (which also has sims installed etc). I tweaked the settings to also backup locally. Once a term I restore the machine over the internet to a VM in another site. Has always worked flawlessley. Delta backup timings are impressive.

 

I would like MFA to the acronis console, but given the encryption keys are not stored at the cloud end I reckon it's good enough.

I thought 2FA was available - I had an account setup to trial and managed to configure 2fa yubikey authentication on it.

 

I read a few posts on here where people have had cloud backups and not been able to use them when they get attacked with ransomware...

It does seem like you're getting some things mixed up with this issue about backups/ransomware and cloud vs cloud etc.

 

If you're using a proper cloud backup service (rather than a mapped external drive hosted online/azure/blahblah etc) there isn't a way for ransomware to directly attack it, as your pc/server doesn't have direct access to said storage. The worst that could happen is you run a backup after it's already encrypted, and thus you effectively backup the encrypted files, but in this case you should be able to restore from an older point (unless you only have 1 that is...)

 

In terms of encryption keys etc, then yes obviously if you only have 1 place they are (on ransom'd server) you're gonna have a problem, but again put it in multiple secure areas and shouldn't be any problem

 

Any examples/posts you can link that suggest I'm misunderstanding I'd be interested to see
