Veeam on dedicated physical backing up Hyper-V cluter - Speeds and RTO

Afternoon all,

 

Anyone running a dedicated physical server for Veeam with DAS against a Hyper-V cluster whether its S2D or not.

 

If so what are you backup speeds like on both an incremental and full/synthetic and have you tested restore speeds for RTO?

 

I'm currently running a VMware 3 node cluster (soon to be 2 node S2D) with Veamm as a virtual server against a NAS and while backups/restores work and are consistent backup speeds and RTO are not the greatest so wanted to gauge the above scenario of physical Veeam server against Hyper-V cluster.

I must have missed this previously, but yes we used to run it that way, separate Veeam server with DAS, against cluster (SAN based though), the biggest issue in the chain with speed is normally your raid card doing caching on the Veeam/DAS server.

 

Found this out through doing a test of a separate backup to a single HDD on the Veeam server and speeds rocketed a lot, ended up changing card, so might be worth having a look at that if you are finding it slow
