Student Emails How do you do them

As an ever growing Trust on one big tennant I was thinking the other day.... about what others are doing around making it easier to target students in 365/Azure....

 

All schools have their own domain names on our tennant but then seperating students out to do powershells / reports against becomes a bit of a nightmare...

 

So my question is.... Do people still set up their students with a sub domain to keep them seperate from the top level domain.... for example staff have ..... contoso.com and students have students.contoso.com

 

Was just interested to see what others are doing

We use different username/email formatting for staff and students. Students have year of entry,first initial surname (eg [email protected]) and staff just use their initials and year of start (eg [email protected]) This makes them easy enough to sort and address separately. We also maintain an "All Students" group, which helps grab all the students for some processes (but I don't think it would help for powershell).

We use a different format first initial dot surname for staff and first name dot surname for students.

 

We're only a small special school so haven't had any clashes

We have a subdomain for our students at my current school. Previous schools we didn't use a subdomain, but the students had a different format to staff so it was easy to differentiate. We also have students/staff in groups (all students, all staff) that makes it easy to target with powershell if needed

On GAFE, we now use initials and exam \ roll number e.g. js1234@, the surnames are always Uppercase and we replace the user image with a specific image to easily identify students.
