The Covid-19 Remote Teaching\Working Lessons Learnt Thread

Now that we are (slowly) coming out of the first stage of the Covid situation I think it would be a good idea for us to have a thread that cover the lessons learned on the tech side for schools and other organisations as regards to having to support a large number of remote users with minimal notice, and in some cases facilities i.e. your servers etc.

What we are looking for is your experiences as to how you managed remote learning/access, how you equipped, if at all, your remote workers/pupils. Did you work from home and managed your network and users remotely? and if so, how did you achieve this plus any more information you can think of to help those who may still yet have to set this up for their schools.

We intend for this to be a very factual thread that can help not just members but those coming in for advice and information on how they can best prepare for this in the future (there may well be more lockdowns in the future to mitigate spikes when rules are relaxed).

So, without further ado, please find below some hints as to what to include in any advice as well as a couple of rules.

• Did you have to buy in any new hardware/software to accomplish remote learning, if so, what?
  
• Costs involved
  
• Challenges faced
  
• Any problems users had encountered
  
• How you view your success in meeting user requirements
  
• Are there any extra things you still need?
  
• Any other information you think is relevant that others should be aware of
  

 

Rules:

 

• No politics - i.e. no blaming the govt if your school didn’t have the funds it required to do the things you needed for example
  
• If you are to criticise a product, please do this professionally and mention anything lacking in a professional way
  
• No diverting the thread – Stay on subject
  
• No user bashing, it’s been a hard time for everyone!
