Is it possible for teachers to disable video chat functions for students when in meetings? Teachers want to be able to mute students and stop them un-muting them self and also block students sharing their screen but enable when required.

thanks

Ive also had another strange request from a teacher if the "Chat" button on the left hand side can be disabled or at least not show the chat history? They are saying its too confusing for students.

Dont worry, i found how to hide the Chat button.

how do you hide it?

I thought you could hide it using one of the setup policies however if i remove Chat, guess what.... it doesn't work.

Chat is communication outside of a Team, the chat in the meeting is just the thread that the meeting starts in the team channel, don't let people post to that channel if you don't want them using it, but seems more like a teacher problem than a pupil problem, kids are used to multitasking

Yeah I get that. I think they were complaining about the Activity Feed as well which I kind of get is pointless and would be worth hiding if possible but I don’t think it is?

They're always super picky, in a week they'll like it. Or tell them to switch to the open source version and then edit the code themselves...actually thinking about it, it's html, just use ublock origin rules or write an extension.

instead of holding a meeting hold a presentation. (untested)

EDIT: Sorry it's called "Live Event" I saw it in training.

Yes just schedual the meeting rather than running it live. Then you have options to make the students "attendees"

Supposedly the new default presenter setting should solve this. Not had a chance to test it though.

@chazzy2501 - Live meetings are an additional license cost for the presenter, not attendee. Currently free but just be careful as I think the cut off was June or July.
