we have almost full migrated over to 1909 windows 10 ent

 

have been testing the sharepoint migration tool for migrating our file shares for the users home directorys, and move them over to onedrive and seems to be going quite well

 

i've downloaded and installed the admx and adml files for the group policy and applied some settings

 

but

 

im trying to see if i can get the OneDrive to login automatically when the user logins, we dont use profiles for pupils or logon scripts for mapped drives as we use group policy for that

 

however its doesnt seem to be working any suggestions

Hi Kevin

 

I've been doing this for the last few weeks and now got it to work flawlessly.

Below are a few highlights I noticed that screw up the auto login:

1. Make sure the time on your clients and server are within 5 minutes of a well know ntp source.

2. Make sure the group policies are applied to all devices. (I had a few occasions where I applied it to user by mistake)

3. Make sure single sign on is enabled in azure sync. Best way to check this is to see if edge auto signs you in / office 365. If edge / chrome doesn't auto sign you in to office 365, then you haven't got auto sign in working.

4. I'm not sure if this helped with it syncing, but it definitely helped with login times. Pre install the OneDrive client with /all users on end.

5. Make sure that nothing is being filtered (we had that at one of our primary schools.

6. There is a group policy under users config - desktop that says prevent moving desktop known folder (make sure this is set to not configured)

7. I couldn't get it to work with redirected folders, so in the end deleted the folder redirection policy and then reimaged the site. (As it will remember the folder redirection by default) even when you remove the policy.

 

Hopefully some of these hurdles we came across, help you.

Is that tenant ID correct? This has caught a few people out who use the onmicrosoft address.

 

For example ours is: 511711c6-fc7c-4043-8jy2-70a81123435a

Out of interest how does this work? Does it re-direct the my documents or does it just connect to a shortcut to onedrive from the users point of view?

It redirects to one drive. Same as folder redirection, but just links to OneDrive

Can I ask for those that have this working does OneDrive sometimes take a while to kick in on first login. It works fine on our machines but on first login it can take 45 seconds after login to kick into action. This is on a well specced PC .

 

The desktop does a little flash and if you have file explorer open it will close it. Once that's happened first time round it's almost instant to login on subsequent logins.

 

Also has anyone had it fail to save? What's happens to users Docs if it fails/logs off too quickly for some reason?

Just to up date I’ve jumped over to using the one drivemapper PowerShell script which works really well

Strange, does it work better? There are warnings all over the site about why you shouldn't use it!

to update we have had to stop using the mapper as when you try and open office documents it was asking for a username and password, so went back to our original plan using the onedrive application made sure that we was on the latest version and using /switch and applied the some group policy settings, only concern is that if a child wants to download there whole home drive it could potentially fill up HD space

 

However i cant remember if you can limit the storage allocation for OneDrive as if i can i was thinking of only giving them a healthy 10Gig which they will never or should never fill

 

Just need to test the single sign on
