Mitel 5212 Phone & POE Injector

Hey all!

 

So I've been in for my first day of half-term and I've already broken something:D

 

I have a Mitel 5212 handset that boots fine when connected to a 'power brick' but the second is is connected to a POE injector it fails to download the boot image correctly.

I have tried the following:

+ Different patch socket

+ Different POE ports

+ Different switch ports

+ Checked config of switch

+ Checked config of POE injector (although it doesnt do much!)

+ Different patch cables

 

The PBX doesnt show anything different or any error messages, there is no problem with any computer/network activity so it seems to be something the injector is doing. All the other handsets are working fine from it but I dont have another injector to test in its place.

 

Any suggestions? I hoped this would be a quick and easy job for me to do whilst awaiting a delivery of computers but yet again IT takes a dislike to me:p

Have you checked if the PoE is 'leaking' over to the other pins?

 

Perhaps the pins in the phone's socket are damaged or there is a problem with the network cabling? Try tracing through the cable with a decent tester or try it on a different point (direct into the PoE switch perhaps?).

The phone is new so there shouldnt be any problem there. Also it works fine when using a power brick, not a single problem.

I have tried plugging directly into the injector, same result. Even tried ports at different ends of the PoE switch.

 

The Injector is a Planet POE-2400 if that makes any difference.

Have you got a voltmeter? If you do you should be able to test the voltage coming off the pins at the far end to make sure that it is pushing enough voltage through to fully power the phone.

The phone is new so there shouldnt be any problem there. Also it works fine when using a power brick, not a single problem.

 

Like something being new has ever made a difference? Also, not knowing these phones, I assume that the power brick plugs into its own socket rather than the ethernet socket.

You have tried pretty much everything so I would suggest a quick call to tell your supplier that the phone was DOA so that you can get it swapped out.
