Known Folder Move - Testing & Peoples Thoughts

Hi All,

 

I'm wondering if I should be looking at KFM for our new September intake. However I've hit a bit of the block on how to start testing it. I'd like our existing year groups to remain using folder redirection so with my group policy setup I can do this and not apply anything to the new accounts. However the Known Folder Move group policy settings seem to be machine ones, no user.

 

So I'm wondering if other people have done this or done any testing?

If you apply the setting to all machines does it skip students who still have folder redirection set? I know it now supports moving files from a UNC path but you need to set it to Not Configured so as far as I can work out it'll skip those. I guess it also skips anyone who doesn't have OneDrive setup?

It's looking I'm going to be the first to give this a go then. Just before I take the plunge (From a distance of course, thanks remote working) does anyone want to offer advice?

Could you set up a test VM and a few test users (if such doesn't already exist) and test using Loopback Mode? In theory you should be able to apply machine policies to users.

 

CBA to remote in to check, but does the policy have any item level targetting? That could be another angle to look at.

Your right, I'm likely to use a VM and apply a machine policy limited to just that machine (Save turning loopback on). I'm pretty sure it won't affect existing users but I can use this to confirm that. Just wonder if anyone else had gone through this process. I'll have a look later today and report how I get on.
