Hi all,

Is there a distance learning mega-thread where people are discussing what is and isn't working? We have been largely setting remote work for the time being using a combination of Show My Homework and Google Classrooms but we have come to the point of really needed to start delivering lessons remotely and wondered if any schools delivering 'live lessons' on a large-scale could share their experiences on the process from

I am particularly interested in:

  • Staff skills - How have staff taken to the challenge of delivering lessons online. What lessons have been learnt, how have the most techonically anxious found the experience and is there anything you think would be useful to share?
  • Technological barriers for students - how are you keeping track of students who can and cannot access this type of online learning. A big concern for us, as it will be for all, is to minimize the impact of the technical barriers to learning and ensure that the we do not leave behind students who do not have access to the resources.

If anyone can provide any information, or would be happy to have a quick chat about their experiences it would be very much appreciated. I know we are all in new ground here so learning from each others experience seems sensible!

We're quite lucky in that we have 1:1 iPads so are pretty much running as normal. All students and teachers are using google meets to deliver their lessons. It's been a learning curve for everyone. We had teachers test Google Meets with their classes the week before we went into lock down which helped massively as there where a few little things that we found out (meet didn't work on IOS12 in the browser so had to tell everyone to update their iPads) . We also created a few training videos for staff to watch on how to use Meet. I think our main issue has been some students/parents reporting that some things are not working like the classroom app or Goolgle Meet disconnects for them. These are difficult to support as everything is setup the same so you can only put it down to an issue at home but it's hard to tell people that.
