Hello all,

I have ran P2V on a Dell Poweredge server. I then added this virtual machine to hyperv on a HP Proliant, but it will not boot up, just keeps flashing. I am aware this is because it is using different hardware from the original Dell server.

Is there anyway I can get this VM to run on the HP Proliant ?

The virtual machine is Windows 2008 so will be using Gen 1 when I create it into the HyperV host which runs Windows 2012.

Any help much appreciated.

What software did you use to P2V?

In my experience of converting Win2k8 it’s important to make sure the physical is fully updated with windows updates first. Also remove the Hyper-v role if it has one.

Boot into safe mode first once virtualised.

Thanks.

I used disk2vhd. I don't really want to remove the hyperv role as there is a VM being used. But thanks anyway.

Depends on the hypervisor and the guest. Windows Server 2016 and 2019 supports nested virtualisation but I don't know if it supports it for Windows 2008 guests.
