Hotel23 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Hi all, Im just wondering how everyone manages communications when for example the internet is down and communication needs to be sent to staff to make them aware and send further updates. We are just sending emails out currently but have found that sometimes we might forget to add a contact who needs to be on, or the formatting just looks a bit nasty. I look forward to hearing any thoughts Thanks
hardtailstar Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Email, if thats down then tannoy at regular points.
Chaniel Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 All staff email for those staff who have access via mobile data Message in staff briefing (if it lies on that day) Message to all staff via Impero Message on intranet home page Sign on the door And then when all that's missed and they rush into the office, we tell them
jmak Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Schoolcomms has the facility to send text messages to staff contact details. Imports from SIMS daily, so requires staff to have provided their personal mobile phone details and given permission to be contacted for that purpose. Any of the approved users can do it from their mobile phone (assuming it's the school's internet that's down, not the whole of the internet!).

That only works if you dont have a policy where staff cannot use phones in front of pupils. 1
jthompson Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Email (cloud-based) and/or notice on our intranet page (which is locally hosted). We might also tell reception staff, as they're often in a position to update staff in passing.
synaesthesia Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 (edited) That only works if you dont have a policy where staff cannot use phones in front of pupils. These sort of policies can be questionable and often get overturned when they realise what they're missing out on. "Oh, but we used to manage without tannoys and mobiles..." - and yes, we also didn't have to worry about lockdown drills etc. Forgot to say - we use Impero to push messages out to whoever needs them and also have Netsupport Notify for lockdown type scenarios. CHiLL Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 For updates, planned maintenance, or more general info we send emails to the All Staff group. For urgent/something is down messages, we send popups to staff via NetSupport Notify (it's installed on all staff computers, teaching and non-teaching). For school closed messages or similar, the admin team send texts out to staff and parents.
mavhc Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Which messaging system in Impero do you use? Seems like the problem with missing people off is more of a problem with keeping groups up to date.

Just the on screen message for urgent bits, and even then we don't use it for anything much than "Oi, do your registers, it's your job you pleb" or "Something's gone wrong, sorry!"
