DVD discs and DVD Players

I've been asked to burn a play onto DVD but it is larger than 4.7GB

 

Will the Dual Layer DVDs 8.4Gb discs play on normal DVD players?

They probably want the DVD in Orange Book format, this means they want the DVD in a condition to play in a normal player. I bring this up as a DVD Video (in single layer) could take up to 4 hours.

 

You'll need a DVD Video author, this'll convert (re-encode and split) your file or files and create the suitable directories and a menu etc. We use Nero 12, this is how we author DVDs for the exam board for Drama.

 

EDIT: a DVD video disc using only a single layer 4.3GB can play in low quality up to 4 hours of footage.

Yes, but as @chazzy2501 mentioned it has to be in the correct format.

The quality won't be as good though.
