Registering OCX files

Im sure we've all got some, old software that needs these registered

 

Im trying to set up Getting To Grips With Graphs

We must have had a fix because it ran fine before our apps server died...obviously now I cant look at what the fix was

 

There is an ocx file called threed32.ocx that needs to be registered. Logging on as someone with local admin rights, the software works (does it register it when the software is opened?)

Students - no chance. Ive tried batch files, wont let them register it, since they arnt local admin. Now tried a startup script with the following

 

regsvr32 threed32.ocx /s

 

Stayed on 'running startup scripts' for ages then when I could eventually log on the software still didnt work.

 

If I log in as an admin and run it, students can then run it.

 

So I either need a script that can register that file, or another way round it. We never needed a script before, it just worked, so there must be another workaround

We use an MSI to register OCX's and allocate it out.

How do you do that? Using an MSI capture package?

Erm,

 

I used WininstallLE, in there you can make a package, click file, add, pick the ocx and 'auto register'.

Yeah you might have to, I havent got a clue here lol

 

Im running it from the console, creating a new package but theres no 'add' in the File menu. I can add a feature from the action menu but I cant actually see where to specify what Im adding

 

Im using Wininstall LE 2003. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Iused a vbscript to do this on OCX files i needed to register.

Hi,

 

Check the images below, effectively right click, make new package, name it, click files, add the file (ending in .ocx) and hit OK.

Thankyou, that worked brilliantly

Although after I kept modifying the MSI because I realised more and more OCX files were needed for this bloody program, it decided to stop working altogether so spent the last few hours trying to sort that out

In the end just recreated it and it works fine now. Cheers
