[sims] SIMS - more than 1 teacher per class for register taking?

Recently I have been made aware that teachers are sharing their Windows log-in details with supply teachers. I have copmplained about this to SLT (as I have already created seperate supply/guest/student teacher log-ins). It is falling on deaf ears, but I'm not sure supply teachers even read/sign all the relevant policies before they are being given teacher level access to the network... Maybe I'm being overly cautious/paranoid...

 

Anyway, the other issue is SIMS...

 

I have been told it is not possible to have more than 1 teacher assigned to a class for register taking on SIMS.

 

This means that SIMS teacher log-ins must be shared with a supply teacher. I know they could take a manual register, but we have quite a few supply teachers in at the moment. One or two are reasonably long term, but the others can change from day to day or week to week.

 

Is there an easier way to deal with this?

Technically you can't have more than one teacher per registration group.

 

 

The way I do it is......

 

 

Add your new users in Focus/System Manager/Manage Users ..... Attendance Operator or Class Teacher permissions...

 

 

Focus/School/Pastoral Structure/Current Structure ...... Create a new Joint Supervisor in the relevant class.

 

 

They should then hit the Take Register button on the home page, browse for the relevant class teachers name (not class name) (top left) and open and edit the registration marks from there.

 

That should do it.

I think ultimately, the issue is do you give the supply a SIMS login? If the supply member of staff has got access to SIMS, the cover manager can assign the supply staff with the relevant classes. This way, the registers appear on the SIMS homepage for the supply staff. If you don't do cover through SIMS, you can still pick up other teachers groups through the take register icon. You don't need to have a member of staff registered through the timetabling software to take their class register.
